A practice for the week ahead πŸ’•

Hi Reader,

Last week I wrote to you about frequency matching- the way highly sensitive nervous systems learn to read and absorb the energy of any room, any moment, any news cycle. And how, when the ambient frequency is anxiety and urgency and grief, that same wiring can keep us locked in survival mode, scanning and absorbing and matching what's already there.

I want to add something to that.

The way out isn't to overcome frequency matching. It isn't to push past it or bypass it or force yourself into a fake calm you can almost pretend is a better mood.

It's to make space for what's actually here first {all of it, even the tough stuff} and then, from that honest, grounded place, invite an opening for something new. To practice anchoring into a different frequency. Not instead of reality, but alongside it.

This is where possibility comes in.

I'll be honest, practicing possibility can sometimes feel like playing make believe. Like you're pretending, or being naΓ―ve, like you're looking away from what's real and living in delusion.

I know that feeling. And I also know that now, more than ever, we need honed and sharpened imaginations. Clear possibilities we can actually feel in our bodies and build from.

I'm Aries rising with Mars ruling my chart, so I know a thing or two about being a fire starter, making something out of nothing, and beginning anew. This week's new moon in Aries feels like exactly that kind of moment. A catalyst. An opening.

It's a chance to let what has been quiet, maybe a bit murky beneath the surface to finally have some direction and momentum - an opening into possibilities for the dreams you hold in your heart and to clarify next steps - for yourself and for the world.

So I want to offer you a small practice to carry into this week.

A simple, accessible way to begin to explore and practice possibility:

Find a comfortable position wherever you are.
Close your eyes if that feels okay, or soften your gaze.

Take a few breaths and begin to notice what's present in your body right now.
Temperature. Tension. Heaviness or lightness. Bracing or ease.
You don't need to change anything; just notice what you're carrying.

Now bring to mind something you desire.
A possibility you're holding for yourself or for the world.

Maybe it's financial security.
Maybe it's a world where trans people have full rights and protections.
Maybe it's that ICE gets disbanded and your neighborhood feels safe again.
Maybe it's something quieter and closer- your garden flourishing this summer, or having plenty of time and energy to play with your kids every day.

Pick one thing at a time.

Let it be real. Let it matter.

Invite that possibility to come closer to you - to inhabit some part of your being.
Notice what happens in your body when you do this.

There might be fear, or resistance.
There might be opening, or lightness.
Grief that it isn't here yet. Longing. Heaviness.

Let whatever arises, even if it's contradictory, be part of the experience.
You don't need to override it, push past it, or try to resolve it. It all belongs here.

And then, when you're ready, see if you can find one small place in your body that can be present with this possibility - a part of your body that believes that reality can be true. It may be a whole area of your body. It may be one single cell behind your left knee.

Bring your attention and awareness to that part of you that can feel, even faintly, what it would be like if it were true.

Notice how that feels.
Don't hold it longer than it's available for - if you start to wander, come back, but only if the space for that possibility still exists.

After you've done this a couple of times allow your awareness to soften out.
If your eyes have been closed, gently blink them open.
Orient to your space - look around your environment, reconnecting to the here and now.

Maybe you try it a couple of times throughout the day, throughout the week - a small moment of accessing possibility for something you dream of in your body.

That's it. That's the practice.

Not forcing. Not bypassing. Not grasping.

Just making a little more room. Both for what is, and for what could be - at the same time.

Through this you start to anchor into a new frequency you can return to, again and again, until it starts to feel like home.

I create spaces and possibilities for your whole self to come alive and thrive. Among other things I'm a transformational coach, yoga teacher, intuitive artist, and fantasy nerd who loves to tell stories and explore the full spectrum of what it means to be human. For the past 15 years I have supported smart, ambitious, deep-feeling humans to feel at home in their bodies and experience more joy, creativity, and satisfaction in their lives without burning out or selling out their health, relationships, or souls. You can expect more questions than answers, frameworks for self-care and embodiment, invitations into your own dreams and creative expression, and the type of musings and pop culture references only an elder millennial could come up with.

Hi Reader, This has been a summer so far of reconnecting to my own creativity in unexpected ways. Some things I've done have felt more obviously creative, like mini craft projects and decorating my office. Some perhaps less so, like experimenting with how I structure my yoga classes or finding a fun rhythm and flow with my meal planning - but it's all creativity! Society often puts creativity into a specific box - making art like drawings or paintings, writing poetry or making films, or...

Monthly Roots: August Edition Hey Reader, This month is my birthday month (shout out everyone who celebrates the whole month!). Every year as I grow closer to my solar return, I find myself reflecting on the year past, celebrating and mourning, honoring and integrating. I also pay close attention to the sparks of aliveness in me, the planted seeds ready to sprout, the dreams and desires asking for dedication and devotion for the year ahead. The past few years haven't gone the way I thought...

Hey Reader, We just entered into Leo season, a time of year devoted to the power of the sun, expressing your truth, creativity, and vitality. It also happens to be my birthday season, and I'm a big fan of celebrating birthdays. What a glorious, built-in moment to bask in being alive! At the same time, this year has been hard hitting. Personally, in my community, in the collective - like we can joke about lettuce diarrhea all we want, but the realities that got us here and what continues to...
